The Lomax Kennel is one of five independent owner/trainer racing kennels at the Birmingham Race Course. Peter Lomax and his wife, Betty, have been in the greyhound racing business for more than 30 years, owning a farm and racing kennels in New Hampshire, before coming to Birmingham. Together, they run a 24/7 operation that is home to 65 to 70 greyhounds. Betty usually takes care of the day shift, and Peter takes on the duties in the evening with occasional part-time help. They also have a daughter, Heather, who works as a trainer at a track in West Virginia. These are their stories.
